Not Fair

Russia just launched a high speed rail between Saint Petersburg and Moscow. It travels 400 miles in 3 hrs 45 min for $95. The equivelant trip in the US (DC to Boston) would cost twice as much and take twice as long (and that's the quickest route we have!). Somethings not right here...

    Not sure if you heard this yet but Obama just announced that $8 billion dollars of the stimulus package is going towards supposed "high speed rail" intercity systems. Unfortunately these are going seem to be more like "mid speed" trains not nearly reaching the speeds of their foreign counterparts. They're saying that with infrastructure and starting now they can increase the speed later with time, but I'm not sure exactly how well that will work... just have to wait and see :/
