Dambisa Moyo is a Zambian-born, American/British trained business economist (ie she deals with stocks/bonds and is a market observer more than a traditional academic economist) and she wrote a book in 2009 called "Dead Aid". Now this was an explosive book because it suggested that aid to Africa has done more harm than good and that aid flows should be effectively shut off (this is counter to what Bono and Jeff Sachs say). She says that African nations should instead seek more foreign direct investment as well as private market financing options (such as issuing bonds).

Makes some sense right? Well, it does (at least to some extent), and that's why those within the field have been saying the same thing for many years (even those within aid NGOs say diversifying beyond aid transfers is necessary (ie "Trade, not Aid")). The difference is that Moyo is an African woman. So her argument is instantly more compelling.

The only problem is (beyond the fact that she's repackaging an old/accepted idea as a new one she just came up with) she isn't very good at writing or developing an argument. Beyond simple things which irk me, such as referencing wikipedia articles as her evidence and failing to reference at all some major claims, there are a host of other criticisms that have been made about her book.

That's why I was surprised to find that her wikipedia page contains NO criticisms WHATSOEVER, only positive and glowing reviews. Sooooooo, I made a section on criticisms after researching and citing various reviews of her work including from such famous economists as Jeff Sachs and Bill Easterly. However, a couple days later the section was completely removed (censored away) by someone else who stated that the citations are not correct. This is utter claptrap and completely biased editing. I encourage you to go to the page on Dambisa Moyo [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dambisa_Moyo] yourself (the embed link wasnt working) and verifying my citations if any doubt me.

Rest assured people, I will maintain a vigilant eye on this page to verify that the biased editing-out of critical opinions does not continue unchecked.
